~Give a away~

Dsc06178

I am headed off on vacation for a week back to Michigan.  I thought I would do a little give a away while I was gone to celebrate my birthday on July 2nd.  I have been cleaning out my craft space and I have so much artowrk and I decided to give this collage away to one of my readers.  Leave a comment on this post and when I return from vacation, I will pick a winner on July 6th.  I hope you all have a great holiday and I will see you soon.

Roses from my garden

Dsc06137

I have been such a bad mother to my rose bushes.  I finally went outside to prune them and give them much needed fertilizer.  My English roses already have black spots....so sad.  I will blame my lack of interest to my pregnancy.  Since I am feeling better, I am going to take much better care of them.  There is nothing like fresh roses from your own garden to put a smile on your face.

I love instant gratification

I love when a project takes 15 minutes and it works out according to your plans.  Don't you?  I am still organizing my craft space and I decided I needed a bit more light.  I had an old lamp base I wasn't using and I made a lampshade with some vintage wallpaper.  I was going to use some vintage trim but I decided to use crepe paper instead.  I am pleased on how it turned out.  I have to give you an update...I have been feeling much better and it feels really good to be back creating and feeling like myself again.  I hope I didn't just jinx myself!

I have been a busy bee

I have been organizing my little craft space trying to make it much more efficient.  I have a lot of storage in a small space but I keep forgetting what I have in what tin.  So, when I am crafting it takes me longer to figure out where did I put that trim I need?  I use a lot of matte white pottery to store many of my craft supplies because they are open at the top and I can easily see what is stashed inside.  The problem is when I store items in a tin or satin box.  I put it in there and forget what is inside.  This is what I have been doing for the past two weeks....I told myself no more projects until I get it totally done.  I have a few more tags to make but for the most part, I am almost done.  There is nothing like being organized. The best part is, my oldest daughter Olivia has been helping me sew the tags.  She is really good with the sewing machine....I like to think she is a chip off the old block.

I like to use visuals of what is inside the box, here is a tag for my vintage photos.

Dsc06140

I have a ton of sewing cards...I had them stashed in to many places, once I put them together I realized I have a ton.  It is a good problem to have...right?

Dsc06148

My daughter made this one all by herself....not bad uh?  She can sew a mean straight line.

Dsc06152

The top tag is for all of my vintage paper dolls and the bottom tag is for an entire box of hankie scraps (I can't throw them away, you never know when you might need them).

Dsc06155

This one is for all of my glitter letters.

Dsc06159

I have a ton of this chocolate brown yarn and this is the perfect tag for it.

Dsc06161

Here are a few more....the top one is for paper ribbon, the middle one is for glass bottles (oops, I forgot to add the word glass, the letter s didn't fit.  Don't tell anyone) and the bottom one is for an entire tin full of vintage buttons.

It doesn't look like a lot of work, but it is!

I swear I only went into the flea market to look specifically for one thing (of course I didn't find it) and I came out with a whole lot of pretty stuff (that I didn't need).  The hat gods must be shinning down on me....each hat was under $5.00 (what a deal).  Well, I thought to myself, now Lori you can't pass up a good deal like that.  Then I strolled down the next aisle and I found the sweetest vintage ballet costume.  I bought it for the fabric on the sleeves and in the center, oh ya and I love the tulle on the bottom.  I have the perfect project for it.  Just look at the vintage bridal veil...isn't it sweet?  How sad it ended up in a flea market.  It is broken but the bead work is beautiful.  I'll give her a good home.

I am off to make pop corn for the Camp Rock premier party we are having with four little girls.

Have a great night.

Digital artwork

  Loriblog203x620no20address1_2

Do you know how to create art with your computer?  If so, good for you. I wish I knew how to do it. Maybe I will put that on my to do list, along with everything else.   I am amazed at what people create with their computers.  Aren't you?  Look at the address labels Mendy created for me (I have three more with my actual address on them).  I love them! I emailed an image to her that I had and she did the rest.  You can find them in her Etsy shop.

Sorry this is so short but I just got this in the mail and I am going to crawl in bed and read it cover to cover.   The Art of Personal Imagery: Expressing Your Life Through Collage by Corey Moortgat.  I am amazed at her talent.  I want to use some of her techniques in my artwork.

Creativity at your finger tips

Dsc06095

I just received an advanced copy of Somerset Life (available July 1st) and I have to say I am so proud to be part of the Somerset Life family.  Every issue is jammed pack with creative ideas that are easily translated into your every day life. The photography is amazing as well.  You will definitely need to go out and buy this one.

Here are some of the projects and articles that I contributed to in this issue.

Didn't I tell you how great the photography is?  The apron article is my favorite because Pam Garrison made the other apron in the article.  The apron Pam made is gorgeous.  I would love to have one.  Well anything Pam makes I would love to have.  She is my favorite.

I am off to bed...it is way past my bedtime.

Happy Father's Day

I am sitting here at my computer drinking coffee and eating quiche (So far I haven't gotten sick yet...although it is only 8:35) and catching up on my favorite blogs.  I have been thinking lately that I am very blessed to have a wonderful husband and healthy kids.  Sometimes we all get caught up in our lives and we forget the bigger picture.  Well, at least I do from time to time.  I think I have been feeling sorry for myself with my nausea and REALLY, things could be much worse.  I must be feeling better to have such a positive outlook so early in the morning.  This photo of from Greenfield Village in MI.  It was a really pretty setting...don't you think so?  Well, I am off to celebrate a day of Dad with my kids.  I hope you have a great day.

P.S.  I am in the process of organizing my little craft space and once I get that is ship shape condition, I will start crafting again.  It has been way to long.  I just have SO much junk, I can't find a thing when I need it!  I am making great progress.

Such a sweet face...

Dsc06061

Doesn't she have a sweet face?  I thought so when I saw her at the flea market and she now sits in my craft room.  I just love the white roses on the hat.

I just got interrupted from my daughter to download some music on ITunes.  Gees, she is only 8...my how they grow up uh?  She saved her own money to buy an IPod shuffle and she is not allowed to download anything with out my permission. Did I mention that I know every Hanna Montana song?  My children have more money than me...they definitely take after my husband.

Sorry so short....my Momma duties are calling me.

Have a good night.

My new treasures

Dsc06051

Just look at her...isn't she beautiful?  I found her in Bay City and guess what?  She was only $5.00.  How about that!  I have always wanted on of these pillows but they were always more money than I wanted to spend.  She now sits on top of my daughter's bed.  Here is a bigger photo of her.

Dsc06050

I am always on the hunt for vintage hats, I usually find them but not always at a price I want to pay.  When you are use to paying $3-$12 each, it is really hard to buy one that is $20-$30.  I am not saying that I have never paid top dollar for a hat but when you get use to paying a little for one of these beauties, it is hard to pay a lot.  I am happy to report these hats were only $3.00 each...that is right!  What a deal.

I bought this old silk slip with the best lace....I love vintage trims.

Dsc06027

I was lucky to find a bunch of vintage millinery corsages.  Oh, I love the quilted lingerie bag.

Dsc06035

I have no idea what I am going to do with the cardboard calendars, don't you just love images on the top?

Dsc06038_2

I bought these satin ballet shoes and I am going to put them in my girls room.  I think I am going to hang them on her curtain rod or hang them on a knob on her dresser.

Dsc06045

I love these vintage note cards and the original note cards and envelopes are still in the box.

I think that is about it....
